frosting + fire

September 22, 2011

Had fun this week, trying out a couple of recipes for both cupcakes and frosting. I am loving the fact that I’m getting more daring in my kitchen, mostly when it comes to baking, because I feel closest to my grandma Juanita when I do it.

Today’s share comes as a result of entering a contest through The Hob, a fantastic Hunger Games fan site. The objective was to bake Hunger Game-related yummy things. See here.

I was happy to make my own cupcakes and frosting. And even though I had to give it a go, twice, it was well worth it in the end. SO, here they are, my little HG creations. I’ll refrain from explaining each one of them, purely because I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone who will be reading these books in the future. Yes, I am talking to YOU.

FUN FACTS:
_the breadcrumbs have a hint of cinnamon in them. This was a yummy one.
_used my old graphite to imitate the residue of coal.
_learned to make black/charcoal colored frosting!
_my smoke alarm didn’t go off when I set the cupcake on fire. *phew*
_the cupcakes are actually eatable! my grandma would be proud 🙂
